Silver Dominates Cherry In Second Scrimmage, 92-65

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. --- The New Mexico women's basketball team held its second scrimmage of the preseason Friday night inside The Pit. Senior Amanda Adamson highlighted the event with 22 points and 16 rebounds leading Silver to a 92-65 victory over Cherry. Five players scored in double figures while freshman Sara Halasz led all scorers with 31 points.

The Silver squad, made up of the upperclassmen, shot 38.5 percent from the field and scored 92 points on their way to the victory. Adamson led Silver with 22 points on 6-of-16 shooting and hit 9-of-10 from the free throw line. Junior Amy Beggin had 19 points while senior Angela Hartill scored 20. Junior Eileen Weissmann had her best showing of the preseason with 14 points and three 3-pointers.

Despite Cherry falling behind early, Halasz recorded her first double-double this preseason with 31 points and 10 rebounds. She hit 11-of-18 shots from the field and 5-of-7 from behind the arc. She was the only member of the Cherry squad to reach double figures.

Junior Georonika Jackson made her first showing for the Lobos Friday night. Jackson scored nine points and had three rebounds in 28 minutes of action.

Over 350 fans came out on Halloween night to watch the event and caught a glimpse of the 2008-09 Lobos. UNM has its first exhibition game on Tuesday against the Melbourne Roos starting at 7 p.m. The final scrimmage of the year is next Friday from 5-7 p.m. inside The Pit.
