Cavazos-Galvez Swings Way to More Weekly Honors

TUCSON, Ariz. - Senior outfielder Brian Cavazos-Galvez was selected by Collegiate Baseball as a Louisville Slugger National Player of the Week following his torrid performance at the plate in four games from May 11-May 16. Cavazos-Galvez was also named CollegeBaseballInsider.com's National Player of the Week on May 20.

Cavazos-Galvez went 11-for-17 at the dish with five home runs, one double, 11 RBI and 12 runs scored. He is among two other position players and two pitchers to garner the weekly distinction.

On Monday, he collected the Mountain West Conference Player of the Week and was named to the All-MWC first team for the second consecutive year. He leads the Lobos with 15 homers and 63 RBI.

The Lobos earned the No. 2 seed in the 2009 Conoco Mountain West Conference Baseball Tournament and earned a bye. UNM will play its first game of the tournament on Wednesday, May 20, at 2 p.m. (MDT) against the highest seeded winner from Tuesday's first round games.
