Midland, Texas – The University of New Mexico men’s tennis team wrapped up day one of the Midland Collegiate Invitational with singles player Jadon Phillips advancing on to the second round of singles.

The UNM singles player Jadon Phillips seeded number five in the tournament, also ranked eighty-three in the country, notched a win for the Lobos to start the day taking down Rice University’s Isamu Tachibana with a score of 6-2, 6-2. He will be advancing to 16-round singles main draw.

Conor Berg faced the number one seed in the tournament, also ranked number twenty-nine in the country, and played with spirit against Tulsa University’s Japie De Klerk losing in a tie-break in the third set 4-6, 7-5, 7-6.  

Carl Ho played his heart out but was not able to defeat Abilene Christian’s Hans Hoch losing in a tie-break in the third set 7-6, 6-7, 7-6.

Phil Anderson also fell in the first round against Davidson’s Calum Gee 7-6, 6-3.

While Lobos Carl Ho, Phil Anderson and Conor Berg did not win in the main draw; they each won a match in consolation and will be advancing to the next round.

In the doubles arena, Phillips/Anderson will be advancing to the third round of the tournament while Berg/ Ho will not be joining them losing in the second match against Texas A&M.
