COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - New Mexico sophomore Stephanie Kennedy and San Diego State senior Janna Kovensky have been named Mountain West Conference Softball Co-Players of the Week, while San Diego State sophomore pitcher Celena Velasquez has been named Pitcher of the Week.

Kennedy, a Farmington, N.M., native, helped the Lobos to three wins at last weekend, including an upset victory over No. 20 Arizona State, at the Fiesta Bowl Tournament in Tempe, Ariz. She hit .471 (8-for-17), with a home run, three doubles, five RBI and four runs scored for the weekend. Kennedy hit safely in every game, including three multiple hit games, starting with a 2-for-4 performance in UNM's opening game win over Western Michigan. She blasted a first inning homer, giving the Lobos an early lead on the way to the 8-0 victory. Kennedy also hit a double, drove in two runs and scored two runs of her own against the Broncos. In the 8-6 upset victory over the 20th-ranked Sundevils, she went 1-for-4 from the plate and scored a run. The next day, Kennedy hit a combined 3-for-5, with two doubles, two RBI and a run scored in games against Nevada and No. 18 Texas A&M. She capped off her weekend going 2-for-4, with an RBI, in New Mexico's 4-3 win over Syracuse. Kennedy also had 15 putouts, eight assists and no errors while patrolling the infield.

Kovensky, a San Diego native, went 6-for-14 (.429) from the plate for the Aztecs last weekend at the Aztec Invitational in San Diego. She also had a double, four RBI and four runs scored, while stealing three bases, to help SDSU claim the tournament title. Kovensky hit safely in four of five games, starting with a 2-for-3 outing against Mississippi State, knocking in two runs and scoring a run of her own as the Aztecs beat the Bulldogs, 5-3. She followed with a 1-for-3 performance in SDSU's 4-1 upset win over 21st-ranked Oklahoma State, knocking in an RBI and scoring a run. Kovensky also went 2-for-2 against UC Santa Barbara, and in the second game against the No. 21 Cowgirl went 1-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored. On the season, Kovensky is hitting .387, with five RBI and a .484 slugging percentage.

Velasquez, a Tucson, Ariz., product, turned in two complete game victories for SDSU at last weekend's Aztec Invitational. In 15.0 innings on the mound, she struck out eight, while giving up seven hits, two earned runs and two walks. In the Aztecs 4-1 victory over No. 21 Oklahoma State, she came within two outs of her first career no-hitter, striking out five and scattering two hits, while giving up an earned run. She retired 17 Cowgirl hitters in a row at one point in the game. Velasquez followed with an eight-inning performance against Mississippi State. Against the Bulldogs, she fanned three, while giving up five hits and an earned run, leading SDSU to the Aztec Invitational title. On the season, Velasquez is 4-1, with a 1.44 ERA and 22 strikeouts in 34.0 innings.
