ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The Lobo women's basketball team will welcome the Air Force Falcons to The Pit Thursday night in a MWC match-up. New Mexico is 11-6 on the year and 1-3 in the MWC, while Air Force is 4-11 on the season and 0-4 in conference play. Tip-off from University Arena is scheduled for 7:00 PM and all the action can be heard live on 610 AM The Sports Animal.
TONIGHT'S GAME: Tonight's game features the Lobos of the University of New Mexico playing host to the Falcons of the Air Force Academy in a Mountain West Conference game. The sponsor for tonight's game is Big Oldies Radio 98.5.
SCOUTING THE LOBOS: New Mexico is 11-6 this season and 1-3 in the MWC with victories over Florida Atlantic (74-44), No. 25 Texas (63-60), Georgia Southern (64-43), Siena (78-39), New Mexico State (81-47 and 65-45), at Arizona (76-63), Sam Houston State (77-41), UCLA (72-63), Northern Arizona (62-51) and Colorado State (73-42) and losses to No. 12/13 Arizona State (67-49), Nebraska (66-59), No. 7/8 Oklahoma (80-58), Wyoming (54-51), Utah (49-48) and BYU (63-59). UNM is led in scoring by senior Julie Briody at 16.4 ppg and rebounding by junior Brandi Kimble at 5.9 rpg. Leading the Lobos in assists is senior Katie Montgomery at 3.2 apg.
SCOUTING THE FALCONS: Air Force is 4-11 this year and 0-4 in the conference with wins over Northern Colorado (72-59), Butler (62-61), Yale (67-55) and Weber State (78-73) and losses to Wisconsin (91-58), Alaska Anchorage (62-60), San Diego (59-55), Western Michigan (71-54), Wisconsin Milwaukee (65-53), Illinois Chicago (58-57), Denver (59-46), Colorado State (65-56), BYU (59-46), TCU (87-61) and San Diego State (60-51). Leading the AFA in scoring is Pamela Findlay and Alecia Steele a 12.1 ppg. Steele also leads them in rebounding at 8.7 rpg and Findlay leads in assists at 2.4 apg.
THE COACHES: UNM is led by head coach Don Flanagan who enters his 12th season at New Mexico. Flanagan is 250-110 at UNM. The head coach of Air Force is Ardie McInelly who is in her sixth season as a Falcon and 11th overall. McInelly has a record of 38-117 at the AFA and 115-179 overall.
