ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.---The University of New Mexico women's soccer team recorded its second win of the season as the Lobos defeated Nebraska 3-0 on Sunday afternoon at the UNM Soccer Complex. The Lobos were able to capitalize on their scoring opportunities as they found the back of the net three times with seven shots on goal.

Nebraska finished the game with eight shots on goal but a stellar performance by sophomore goalkeeper Kelli Cornell and the New Mexico defense prevented the visiting squad from scoring.

Cornell was credited with seven saves in the game as she kept the Cornhuskers off the scoreboard and secured her second shutout of the season and 15th of her career. The shutout moves Cornell into the fourth spot on the Lobos' all-time school records list for shutouts in a career.

New Mexico sophomore Stephanie Rowe was credited with the game-winning goal. She scored off of a pass from Jordan Craig at the top of the goalie box at the 38-minute mark. Both squads took seven shots in the first half. The Lobos took a 1-0 lead into the locker room at halftime.

Eighteen minutes into the second half, senior Rachel Fields found the back of the net with her second goal of the season off of a pass from junior Zaneta Wyne. With 10 minutes remaining in the game, junior Jennifer Williams got the third and final goal for the Lobos as she scored on a 60-yard shot while the Nebraska keeper was out of the goal box.

The Lobos are now 2-0-0 on the season. They return to action Friday, Aug. 27 when they travel to take on Wisconsin-Milwaukee in the Milwaukee Cup at 6 p.m. (MT) New Mexico will face Marquette on Sunday, Aug. 29 at Noon (MT) in the second round of the Milwaukee cup.
