COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - New Mexico senior Becca Barras and UNLV junior Raluca Udroiu have been named Mountain West Conference Women's Diver and Swimmer of the Week, respectively. Udroiu is a two-time award winner, while Barras is awarded for the third consecutive week and 15th time in her career.
Barras swept the diving events in the Lobos' non-conference dual meet victory over New Mexico State last week. She turned in a conference season-best point total of 311.10 on the 1-meter board and a score of 365.55 on the 3-meter. Barras now holds the top point total on the 1-meter and 3-meter board, scoring 484.15 at the Texas Invitational earlier this season.
Udroiu, from Bucharest, Romania, helped the Rebels to a non-conference win over UC Santa Barbara last week, sweeping the backstroke events and helping UNLV to a relay victory. She began the meet swimming the backstroke portion of the 200-yard medley relay, as the Rebels clocked a time of 1:46.76 for the win. Udroiu also was victorious in the 100-yard backstroke (56.85), followed by a victory in the 200-yard backstroke (2:03.18). Her time in the 100 back is a MWC season-best, while her time in the 200 back is the third fastest in the league this season.
Barras and the rest of the New Mexico Lobos will rest until the Mountain West Conference Championships in Oklahoma City, Okla. Feb. 23-26.
