COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - New Mexico junior Spencer Levin and Colorado State senior John Hayes have been named Mountain West Conference Men's Co-Golfers of the Month for April. Levin had a stroke average of 70 over three rounds during the month, while Hayes posted a 69.83 average in six rounds played.
Levin finished tied for first with Anthony Kim of Oklahoma at the Aggie Invitational on April 16-17 in Bryan, Texas. Levin shot rounds of 67, 69 and 74 on the 7,235 yard, par 72, Traditions Golf Course. The victory for Levin was his third of the season and helped propel New Mexico to finish second as a team behind GolfWeek's top rated team in the country, Oklahoma State.
Hayes entered April with a 73.54 stroke average and only two sub-70 scores in 26 rounds played. In his two tournaments played during April, Hayes lowered his season stroke average by almost a point (73.54 to 72.84), had three sub-70 rounds and posted his first two top 10 finishes of the year.
Hayes began the month tying for sixth place at the Arizona State Thunderbird Invitational in Phoenix, Ariz. He carded a three-round score of one-over 214 (69-73-72) on the 7,025 yard, par 71, Karsten Golf Course. This past weekend, Hayes continued his strong play at the Ping Golf Cougar Classic in Provo, Utah. He finished tied for fifth with a 54-hole score of 11-under 205 (71-65-69), including a career-best seven-under 65 in the second round.
