Kansas City, Mo. --- The University of New Mexico women's soccer team, which finished 11-7-2 in 2012, was one of 501 women's programs honored across all NCAA and NAIA divisions with the NSCAA (National Soccer Coaches Association of America) College Team Academic Award.

The Lobos, coached by Kit Vela, had a 3.57 grade point average, and were one of five Mountain West schools so honored, being joined by Air Force, Boise State, Fresno State, and UNLV. The 3.57 was behind only Western Michigan (3.65), South Carolina State (3.63), Bowling Green (3.61), Central Michigan (3.61), Arkansas State (3.59), and Toledo (3.58).

New Mexico was one of just 150 programs across divisions to have both men's and women's programs recognized as well. The Lobos had four players, Liz Nare, Kelli Cornell, Brooke Ellison, and Brianna Webster, get named to the 2012 CoSIDA/Capital One Academic All-District VII team. Nare was a first team pick while Cornell, Ellison, and Webster were on the second team.
