ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - University of New Mexico women's basketball coach Don Flanagan announced the signing of Christian Shelter to a National Letter-of-Intent today. Shelter, a 6-1 guard/forward from Mobile, Ala., led Faith Academy to two consecutive Alabama Independent School Association (AISA) Class 3A state titles. Shelter will join incoming freshmen Amy Beggin (Roseville Area High School/Maplewood, Minn.), Valerie Kast (Gallup High School/Estonia) and Eileen Weissmann (Loyola Academy/Chicago, Ill.) as members of the Lobo women's basketball program in the fall.
Christian Shelter, a 6-1 guard/forward from Mobile Alabama, joins the Lobos from Faith Academy. Shelter was named the AISA player of the year by the Alabama Sports Writers Association and was a first team member of the Mobile Press Register sweet 16. Shelter averaged 20.7 points, 9.4 rebounds and 2.2 blocks a game last season and is the all-time leader in those three categories at Faith Academy.
