Post-Game Quotes
New Mexico hosts TCU
2/26/2011

Coach Flanagan

Opening statement
"I thought we played a good game for 32 minutes, unfortunately the game is 40 minutes long. We shot pretty well from the three, basically that's all they were giving us. They do a nice job with mixing up zone defenses. I thought we had good performances from Porche and from Lauren and from Morgan. All those guys shot the ball well, I just don't think we rebounded well enough and defended them well enough. They have two kids who are really two of the better players in the conference. They got the ball to them and they got a good look. Carter gave us problems all game long. Sverrisdottir, just with her smart play and understanding the game, she'd hit a three or make a great pass, or even take us inside and give us problems inside. Basically it was could we outscore them? They just have more scoring power than we did. I think we showed that we are playing better; I mean I thought we played better. It's not a victory but I thought we were playing better, we just didn't play well enough long enough."

On TCU's Emily Carter getting more from the inside
"Well she does that, and you know when we were playing Jasmine on her we had a mismatch size-wise, and she's pretty crafty when she catches a ball down low. I mean she got hoops on Lauren, it wasn't just Jasmine. She got hoops on a lot of people down low. Anybody we had on her, their match-ups were problems when they went with all that size. Everybody was at least six feet tall. I thought we did pretty well with that. We had a couple opportunities in the first half to get a seven, or even a nine point lead, but they just kept coming back and responded back at us. They were the better team and they just had more scoring potential. We got in a shooting contest with a team that was much better at shooting. "

On New Mexico's shooting percentage
"That's important for us; we have to keep developing scorers. Jasmine did not shoot well at all and normally she does. Porche played a good game I thought, she was a little bit tired so I had to sub her out a little bit but she played 35 minutes. I had to put Amanda Best on Sverrisdottir. We normally have Porche on Sverrisdottir, but I had to put Amanda on her because we would have had Best on a 6'3" post player and that would have created a mismatch. Last time they played their smaller point guard so that was our match-up where we could put Lauren or somebody on that shorter player but they were all tall kids. We had to switch over and I think that tired Best out a little bit, I just think that by guarding Sverrisdottir and then having to bring the ball up and play 40 minutes it kind of tired her out. They were the better team, they are a pretty salty team and they played well. At least we made them play well to beat us and then we are playing better, we just didn't play well enough to beat them."

Lauren Taylor

On what New Mexico can take away from this game
"They were a really good team. They have some really incredible scorers and, like coach said, you can't go toe to toe with them and make it a high scoring game, and go back and forth hitting shots because eventually they are just so good that they will pass you up with their percentages. Getting those defense stops is just what we take from it.

On the challenge of the match-ups
"You know I wouldn't say that they tore us up from any one position, I didn't see the scoring, but I feel like that had scoring from a couple different people. They made good plays, they read each other well, they know who their scorers are and they set things up for them. They are just a good team."

Morgan Toben

On New Mexico's good shooting percentage in the second half
"I think we played good offensively especially from the 3-point line. A lot of people were hitting threes and it just comes down to making defensive stops because those threes add up. When we are making threes and they are making threes and twos we have to get those defensive stops."

On what New Mexico needs to do differently
"Talk and communicate. We have to help each other so that we can play team defense."
