ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. --- New Mexico men's golf is tied for fifth place after the first two rounds in the 53rd Annual William H. Tucker Invitational held at the UNM Championship Golf Course Friday. Jacob Lestishen and Steve Saunders led the Lobos and remain in the hunt for the individual title. Lestishen fired back-to-back rounds of 2-under par 70 and remains in second place heading into the finals. Saunders is tied for third at 3-under par for the tournament. UNM shot 11-over par as a team and seven shots back of Ohio State for fourth. Pepperdine leads the event by three strokes over San Diego State and Colorado.
Saunders (70-71=141) carded a 3-under par 141 through two rounds and leads the team into the final round. Robb Bierbaum (77-72=149) and Daniel Saltz (76-73=149) are tied for 33rd after shooting 5-over par for the event. Brandon Putnam fired a 6-over par 150 after the first and second rounds and is tied for 43rd. Jon Sauer rounds out the lineup for UNM and is tied for 61st at 8-over par.
Lestishen, Guillermo Chavez and Andrew Patipaksiri all played unattached for New Mexico. Lestishen (70-70=140) is second individually and needs to make up seven shots in the final round. Chavez (76-74=150) is tied for 43rd and Patipaksiri (75-81=156) is tied at 75.
Pepperdine finished even par after two rounds and carries a three shot lead into the finals. SDSU and CU are tied for second at 3-over par, while Ohio State is fourth at 4-over par. The Lobos are tied with Sam Houston State in fifth.
