No. 11 seed New Mexico Dances With Sixth-seeded Florida In Tucson

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The University of New Mexico women's basketball team, ranked No. 24/24, will take on Florida in Tucson, Ariz., on Saturday, March 18, in the first round of the 2006 NCAA Women's Basketball Championship. Game time on ESPN2 is set for 8 p.m. MT. The Lobos, 21-9 received an at-large bid and are the No. 11 seed in the Albuquerque Region, while Florida is 21-8 and seeded No. 6.

The meeting between the Lobos and the Gators marks the second first-round meeting in the last three years, with Florida beating New Mexico in Albuquerque, 68-56, in 2004. This is UNM's fifth straight tournament appearance. Last year, New Mexico lost to Purdue 68-56 in Knoxville, Tenn., and is 2-5 in NCAA Tournament play.

The other first-round game in Tuscon will be between third-seeded Baylor (24-6) and No. 14 Northern Arizona (22-10) at 6 p.m. MT.
