COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - New Mexico senior Amy Beggin has been named the Mountain West Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week.
Beggin led the Lobos to a 2-0 Conference record last week with wins over league-leaders BYU and No. 20/21 TCU. The Maplewood, Minn., native helped New Mexico defeat the Cougars, 60-57, on the road, scoring eight points, pulling down four rebounds, adding four assists and making two steals. The win marked the fourth-consecutive victory for the Lobos at the Marriott Center.
Beggin went on to lead the Lobos past their first ranked opponent since November 2006 in a 60-53 victory over No. 20/21 TCU. She had 19 points against the Horned Frogs, including four 3-pointers and four rebounds. For the game, Beggin made 6-of-12 (.500) shots from the floor and went 3-for-4 (.750) from the free-throw line. She also added four rebounds, an assist and a steal.
This marks Beggin's third career weekly honor.
