ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The University of New Mexico had four players in double figures as they downed the EA All-Stars 75-71 in front of 12,029 at University Arena. The Lobos close out the exhibition season with a perfect 6-0 record and will now open up the regular season on Saturday night.
The Lobos and the All-Stars played even through the opening minutes, before UNM used a 7-0 run to take a 30-19 lead. Sophomore David Chiotti and senior Javin Tindall led the way in the first half with 10 points apiece. Tindall also had five assists to help New Mexico to a 40-33 halftime lead.
The EA Sports All-Stars came out firing in the second half as they went on a 9-0 run to take their only lead of the game at 46-47 with 11:50 to play. The Lobos over the same period did not hit a shot from the field for over nine minutes until freshman Ryan Wall hit a floater down the lane to regain the lead at 48-47. After Wall's floater, UNM would use a 17-5 run over the next 4:30 to take an 11 point lead. The Lobos would seal the victory going 9-of-10 from the foul line over the final minute of the game. New Mexico was led by sophomore Mark Walters who sparked the Lobos with seven second half points.
Tindall led all Lobos in scoring with 17 points and seven assists. Also in double figures were Walters with 16, Chiotti with 10 and junior Alfred Neale with 10. Neale led UNM on the boards grabbing 10 boards with Chiotti right behind at nine.
EA Sports All-Stars were led by Koko Archibong with 19 points, while David Bell dumped in 12. The leading rebounder for the All-Stars was Tony Harvey with seven.
The Lobos open the regular season on Saturday, November 22, at University Arena against San Francisco State. Tip-off is set for 7:00 PM.
