Women's Basketball Picked To Finish Third In Mountain West Conference

DENVER - The New Mexico women's basketball team was picked to finish third in the Mountain West Conference as selected by the league's coaches and media the conference announced Tuesday morning (Oct. 7) at the MWC's annual Media Day. Utah is the favorite to win the MWC after receiving 19 of the 20 first-place votes.

Two Lobos came away from Media Day with preseason honors. Junior guard Mandi Moore (Canyon, Texas), who was named third-team All-MWC in 2002-03, was selected to the preseason All-MWC team. Moore recorded 208 assists last season, establishing a new season record at UNM.

Junior transfer Jenny Shetters (Center Portland, Ore.) was named the preseason MWC Newcomer of the Year. Shetters, a transfer from Cal State Northridge, earned second-team All-Big West honors in 2001-02 after averaging 14 points and five rebounds.

The New Mexico women's basketball team begins action with an exhibition game against the West Coast All-Stars Nov. 11 at The Pit.
