ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. --- New Mexico softball defeated Colorado State 4-1 Sunday at Lobo field. UNM had five hits in the contest and improved to 4-2 in the Mountain West Conference. The Lobos moved to 20-14 overall and tied their win total from 2007. Colorado State dropped to 20-16 on the season and 1-5 in league play.
CSU scored first in the third inning on a sacrifice fly by Allison Majam. Majam popped out to right field allowing Lauren Cusick to score.
New Mexico plated three runs in the fourth on two Ram errors. Freshman Kim Holyfield beat out an infield single before CSU had two fielding errors on the play. The errors allowed three runners to score.
Freshman Madelyn Machac got the win and improved to 4-2 with the win. Machac allowed a run on six hits with two strikeouts. Senior Kelly Ninemire pitched the final three outs and recorded the save. It was her second save of the season.
Cayte Billman took the loss for Colorado State and fell to 7-5.
New Mexico continues MWC action Friday at home against No. 18 San Diego State. The Lobos and Aztecs will play a doubleheader at Lobo Field starting at 5 p.m. The games will be available via gametracker and live video through all-access on www.GoLobos.com.
