LaBelle II Birdies Three of Last Four Holes to Make British Open Cut

Former University of New Mexico men's golfer Doug LaBelle II (1995-98) made the cut at the 2008 British Open today. LaBelle II shot an even-par 70 today and is tied for 52nd after a two round total of 148 (78-70, +8). K.J. Choi leads the event at 1-under (72-67=139) at the Royal Birkdale Golf Club in Southport, England.

LaBelle birdied three of the last four holes in his second round to make the cut by one stroke. He will tee off in the third round at 9:25 a.m. local time (2:25 a.m. M.D.T.) on Saturday. Another former Lobo, Michael Letzig (2000-03), also competed in this year's British Open. He shot a second round 74 to finish 12-over (78-74=152) and did not make the cut.
