The New Mexico softball team will host Texas State this weekend for a three-game series at Lobo Field. The Lobos are 9-20 overall and will play their first home game in nearly three weeks Friday at 7 p.m. Games are scheduled for 7 p.m. MT Friday and Saturday and the series finale is Sunday at 1 p.m. Gametracker will be available for all games with live video on Saturday and Sunday. Texas State enters the series with a 22-12 overall record.
UNM trails the all-time series with Texas State, 1-4. The last meeting between the two teams was last year on March 29. The Lobos fell to the Bobcats, 5-0.
Texas State is 10-4 on the road this year and has won three of its last four games. The Bobcats have four players hitting over .300 and are led by Kristina Tello who has a .316 batting average. TSU has used as many as three pitchers this season and is led by Chandler Hall. Hall is 14-6 on the year with a 1.53 earned run average.
Ricci Woodard is the head coach at Texas State and is in her ninth season. Woodard has guided the Bobcats to two NCAA Tournaments. Texas State was 35-18 overall in 2008.
This weekend marks the second straight season that New Mexico has battled Texas State. Last year, UNM dropped a pair of games in San Marcos, Texas. Texas State defeated the Lobos 4-3 and 5-0.
New Mexico has lost eight straight games and 12 out of the last 13 games. The Lobos are looking to snap that skid this weekend against the Bobcats. UNM is led by senior Samantha Hughes who is hitting .412 on the season.
