Parkes Picks Up Player of the Week, No. 32 Lobos Roll to 7-0 Win

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.-- The 32nd-ranked University of New Mexico men's tennis team downed Northern Arizona, 7-0, today at the UNM Tennis Complex. Senior Johnny Parkes was also named Mountain West Conference player of the week after compiling a 4-0 record over the weekend.

Parkes paced the Lobos again, notching his 13th singles victory of the spring season with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Andrew Reiff at the No.1 slot for singles. Parkes teamed up with fellow senior Miles Bugby for an 8-4 win over David Flodberg and Jacob Tracy at the No. 1 doubles position.

Parkes is 19-4 overall this season and has won seven straight matches. The Southport Merseyside, England, product has only lost a combined three sets in all 14 singles matches. This marks Parkes' third player of the week honor this season, having collected the honor on Feb. 11 and Jan. 28. Last week, Parkes helped the Lobos defeat Wichita State and then-ranked No. 75 New Mexico State with a pair of singles and doubles wins.

In doubles action today, Graeme Kassautzki and Joe Wood improved to 9-3 at the No. 2 doubles position. Junior Chandler Brass saw his first doubles action of the season, teaming up with Ben Dunbar at the No. 3 slot for an 8-4 win over Chris Arena and Jaco Visagie. UNMis now 11-2 as a team in doubles.

Kassautzki was the only Lobo to drop a singles set on the day. After falling behind 4-6, the senior from Vancouver, Canada, came back to win the second set 6-0 and the third 6-3. Freshman Phil Anderson continued to roll with a 7-5, 6-2 victory at the No. 5 slot.

UNM improved to 12-2 and 21-0 against Northern Arizona, who fell to 3-14.

The Lobos host Purdue on Saturday, March 21, at 1 p.m. at the UNM Tennis Complex.
