ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. --- New Mexico softball dropped a 10-4 decision Friday to San Diego State at Lobo Field. The Lobos had three players with multiple hits and outhit the Aztecs 12-11. Senior Analise Rubalcava and junior Cristin Anderson led New Mexico going 3-for-4 at the plate while senior Smantha Hughes was 2-for-3. UNM fell to 11-30 overall and 2-7 in Mountain West Conference action. The Aztecs improved to 30-14 and 7-1 in league play.
Aztec catcher Erin Flores gave SDSU an early 3-0 lead in the first inning. Flores hit a three-run homer to left field and helped the Aztecs pull out the win.
SDSU added another run in the third inning before UNM would get on the board. The Lobos struck in the bottom of the third inning. Junior Katie Gilmore walked with bases loaded to score the first run for UNM.
The game would remain 4-1 until the SDSU erupted for six runs in the fourth inning. The Aztecs had six runs on two hits including an error.
The Lobos fought off the run-rule with a run in the bottom of the fourth, fifth and seventh innings. Rubalcava singled home freshman Shenise Cox in the fourth while sophomore Tianna George came through with an RBI single in the fifth. The final run of the game came on a solo home run by junior Erin Brandow.
Reliever Bailey Micetich got the win for SDSU and improved to 16-4. Micetich pitched 3 1/3 innings. Samantha Beasley started but got the no decision.
