Williamson Earns Cherry-Silver And Scholar-Athlete Awards At Team Banquet

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The Lobos recently celebrated the 2010 season at the annual awards banquet held at the MCM Elegante on April 1.

University of New Mexico head coach Jeff Nelson recapped the Lobos' season as well as the team's second-straight trip to the NCAA Tournament. The evening was kicked off with a welcome by Senior Associate AD Tim Cass and capped off by a great season highlight video put together by Lobo TV's producer Katie Brutlag.

Senior-to-be Kelly Williamson had quite a memorable night, receiving the Cherry and Silver Award (team most valuable player), Scholar Athlete Award and the Most Improved Player Award. Williamson was also named the recipient of the Jeanne Fairchild Endowed Scholarship. The scholarship recipients must carry a minimum 3.00 grade point average, be active in community service and show leadership on the court. Williamson was also selected to the Co-SIDA/ESPN Academic All-America Third Team.

Senior-to-be Allison Buck was presented with the Captains Award and redshirt junior-to-be Rachel Barber, along with Williamson, received the Most Improved Player Award.

The Lobo coaching staff also presented graduating seniors Taylor Hadfield, Lisa Meeter and Jade Michaelsen with the Coaches Awards and sophomore-to-be Mariah Agre with the Top Newcomer Award.

Meeter, Michaelsen and Hadfield all received Western Region Awards. Meeter and Michaelsen were also presented with Honorable Mention All American Certificates.

Five freshmen received there Letter jackets: Mariah Agre, Miquella Lovato, Ashley Newman, Lexi Ross and Carli Torr.

Lobo Awards were also given out to special supporters of the team. Joaquin Chavez received an award for his work as the strength and conditioning coach. Donny and Racheli Bauer, Pat and Dan Kwasigroch, Judy Wilson, Wes Henderson and Brandon Call all received awards as well for their support of the Lobo volleyball program.
