LARAMIE, Wyo. (AP) - Justyna Podzimeska had 22 points and eight rebounds, and freshman Aubrey Vandiver drove the baseline for a layup with 12 seconds left to help Wyoming beat No. 25 New Mexico 54-51 on Thursday night.
Vandiver's layup gave Wyoming (10-3) a 52-51 lead in the Mountain West opener for both schools. New Mexico's Katie Montgomery then traveled, turning the ball over with about 5 seconds to go. She fouled Wyoming's Amy Sisk on the inbounds play and Sisk made two free throws to seal the win.
Montgomery had a steal and a layup to give New Mexico (10-4) a 51-50 lead. Wyoming turned the ball over, but New Mexico's Amy Beggin missed the front end of a 1-and-1.
Hanna Zavecz added 17 points and four steals for the Cowgirls.
Dionne Marsh led the Lobos with 11 points, and Montgomery added 10. Both had nine rebounds as New Mexico outrebounded Wyoming 40-28.
Wyoming led 29-21 at halftime. The teams traded runs early in the second half, and the score was tied at 44 with 6:56 remaining.
