UNM vs. Pepperdine

Head Coach Yvonne Sanchez

On the first overtime contest this season...
"It's hard with limited players: Nikki (Nelson) was out, Deeva (Vaughn) was out for the game, Nikki couldn't go the second half and Lauren (Taylor) was limited. We wanted to try and win that in regulation and that didn't work. We went into overtime and we still had a chance, Jayme (Jackson) hit that first shot. You have six turnovers at halftime and twenty two for the game; you're not going to win basketball games that way."

On turnovers...
"We threw the ball away. We didn't handle their pressure. We didn't take care of the ball and we didn't throw it in well. That was the bottom line. You can't have more turnovers than points and when you do that you limit yourself and you give them (Pepperdine) opportunities."

On Nikki Nelson's knee...
"That last play she went up and she felt something, I can't speculate if it's serious or not. She just said she couldn't go. With Deeva out already it just made us really limited, especially at the point guard position. It was just Jayme and Caroline and those two had too many turnovers. I think one had six and one had five and that's eleven turn-overs combined with people that are handling the basketball."

On fouls...
"I really didn't notice it. I was more worried about what we were running, what we were getting in, what worked and trying to get buckets and scoring. I kept looking up and thinking we were in the bonus and we weren't and I don't know if we ever got to there or not. Maybe we need to be a little more aggressive going to the basket but again it is a valiant effort by those kids. I was down to five really and they gave it everything they had but we just fell short. Hopefully, it's not too serious with Nikki and Deeva is back in the next couple days."

Player Quotes vs. Pepperdine - 11.26.11

Senior Forward Porche Torrance

On the five-man rotation used by the Lobos in the second half
"It was alright. In overtime, we just kind of got a little tired. We didn't have a lot of rotation on the floor with Deeva being out. It was a little tough, but we just have to fight through that fatigue and keep pushing."

On the effect of the Pepperdine pressure
"They were putting pressure on toward the end of the game, before we went into overtime. I just think we kind of got a little rattled up and lost our focus a little bit, so we just have to relax and just play basketball. I think that if we just had limited the turnovers in the overtime, it could have helped up out a lot."

On the officiating of the game
"Well, you can't say that the officiating goes one sided, but I feel like that toward the end, some rebound fouls that we normally get they didn't call. But we just have to fight through it. The refs won't always be on your side, even if you're home or away."

Junior Guard Caroline Durbin

On the effect of the limited personnel available
"You know, that might be it. When you're in such a close game, usually you can fight through the fatigue because you want to win or you're pumped up. We could had have some tired legs, I think mostly we just lost focus a little bit."

On her last shot attempt to tie the game in overtime
"It was father off the line then I thought, I guess. Jourdan had a good rebound on it."

On having to bring the ball up the court
"I do practice point guard at some practice, but it's tough we you don't have very many guards. If you're a guard, you're expected to bring the ball up."
