Postgame Head Coach Quotes

New Mexico head coach Steve Alford:

"I am very excited about this win. It puts us in the position to have a lot of fun during the next three or four weeks. We are in third place, we have 20 wins and the guys have done a tremendous job. I thought the defense was there throughout the entire game. This has been a team that has been really resilient. They have really battled, and battled and worked. I think other than the first half at BYU we have had incredible effort half after half after half and that is really all you can ask from a coaching standpoint."

"We just have to keep getting better. We are not a perfect team and we are not going to win every game. We have won games here in the last week and a half by 40 or 45 and then 10 on the road. It is not going to be like that all the time and it wasn't tonight. We went on a 19-0 run to start the second half and really blew the game open from that standpoint. Then TCU made a good run and we were able to withstand that run. We had, I think, eight turnovers at half and we only turned it over four when they are trying to make it chaotic in the second half. Then on the flip side, we forced them into 23 (turnovers). There weren't a lot of mistakes defensively in this game."

TCU head coach Neil Dougherty:

"They came out and they played. We made some mistakes early, when you come out and foul the three point shooter, that's not real good. They made shots to start the second half and we did not. We were fouling quite a bit, obviously, and gave them easy opportunities at the free-throw line. The first five minutes of the second half was the difference in the game. We had gotten ourselves into a hole, but the kids continued to fight, the battled and battled. Then they made a run and had seven unanswered points and kicked it out again. Those first five minutes, you can't do what we did and allow a team that has been playing as well as they have been playing to take advantage of that."
