FORT WORTH, Texas --- The No. 18 University of New Mexico baseball team lost a close game today to No. 22 TCU, 4-2 in Fort Worth, Texas. UNM is now 25-8 overall and 5-3 in Mountain West Conference play, while TCU improves to 18-9 and 5-3. The Lobos will get one more shot at the Horned Frogs on Sunday afternoon, 12 p.m. (MDT) at Lupton Stadium.

TCU capitalized on two walks and two hits in the first inning to take a quick 2-0 lead.

The Lobos tied the score in the third inning, 2-2, when second baseman Mike Brownstein drove in designated hitter Justin Howard with a triple and scored one batter later on a Max Willett single.

TCU took the lead again in the third on a solo home run by first baseman Matt Vern, 3-2, and added one run in the fifth, 4-2, for the final score.

Brownstein and left fielder Ryan Honeycutt led the Lobos with two hits each. Starter Travis Dirk (4-2) took the loss, throwing three innings before being relieved by junior Edwin Carl.
