ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Senior outfielder Sean Murray (Albuquerque, N.M.) has been named to the Academic All-District VI University Division Baseball Team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), released Thursday morning (May 13). Murray, who boasted the highest GPA in the district with a 4.20 GPA in Mechanical Engineering, now advances to the national ballot. The Academic All-American team will be announced June 1.
Murray, a co-captain on this year's baseball team, is currently batting .323 with two homers and 27 RBI. He recently was named one of 77 students nationwide to earn the prestigious Truman scholarship, which awards $26,000 toward graduate studies. Murray garnered Academic All-District VI second-team honors in 2003 in addition to being named an All-Mountain West scholar-athlete.
For his career, Murray has been a solid hitter at the plate, owning a .342 average with 174 hits, 33 doubles and 105 RBI. He led the Lobos last season with a .383 batting average.
In order to be nominated for the CoSIDA All-Academic team, a student-athlete must be a sophomore in athletic and academic standing, have at least a 3.20 GPA and be a starter or important reserve on the team. Once nominated, a vote is taken by members of CoSIDA to determine who is named to the team.
