ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- The University of New Mexico volleyball team dropped a tough five-set match to non-conference opponent CSU Bakersfield Sunday afternoon in the Johnson Center. The Lobos fall to 19-10 (6-6 MW) while CSUB improves to 14-16.

New Mexico had a 2-1 advantage and led a majority of the Fourth Set, but Bakersfield came alive in the waning points of Set Four and carried the momentum over to Set Five to claim the match, 3-2 (25-13, 15-25, 25-15, 25-22, 10-15).

In Sets Four and Five, the Roadrunners had 21 kills on 52 swings and committed just seven errors (.264) The Lobos were held to just 17 kills in the final two sets, and hit .062 in the Fifth Set recording four kills on 16 swings while committing three errors.

Three Lobos had double-digits in kills. Chantale Riddle had a team-high 16 while Lena Skipper and Lexi Ross added 10 each. Riddle also had 15 digs, while senior Jordan Russell handled libero duties for three sets and added 12.

Redshirt freshman Hannah Johnson had career-highs in set assists and digs, tallying 40 and 14, respectively. It's Johnson's first career double-double.

CSUB's Debora Araujo led all players with 17 kills and nine digs while the 'Runners' Kelsee Sawyer had 12 kills.

The Lobos will look to secure their 20th win of the season this Thursday, Nov. 15 in a 7 p.m. MT home MW match with Nevada. Thursday night's match is part of the "Howl for Hunger" 2012 Canned Food Drive. Fans who bring two or more canned food items will be eligible for a $3-discounted admission ticket.

New Mexico's last home match of the season is Saturday, Nov. 17 against San Diego State. The Lobos will celebrate Senior Day and will recognize Jordan Russell and Ashley Newman. The match begins at 11 a.m. MT.

First Set - Lobos 25, CSUB 13

New Mexico opened with a 7-2 advantage thanks to strong net play by the Lobos. Skye Gullatt, Chantale Riddle, Lexi Ross and Lena Skipper each had nice plays at the net on offense and defense. UNM's offense caused problems for CSUB and the lead swelled to 13-6, prompting a timeout by the 'Runners.

A kill by Skipper a few player later pushed UNM's lead to 17-9. New Mexico maintained control of the set with strong defense, consistent setting and efficient hitting and secured Game One, 25-13.

Riddle led the Lobos in the First Set with six kills on nine swings while committing no attack errors (.667). Skipper added four kills.

As a team, New Mexico hit .333, connecting on 14 of 33 total attempts and committing just three errors. The 'Runners struggled to find rhythm, recording nine kills on 35 swings and making nine errors at the net (.029). The Lobos also had eight blocks to just one by CSUB.

Second Set - CSUB 25, Lobos 15

The momentum shifted drastically in Set Two. This time it was the Lobos who struggled offensively, getting just six kills on 33 attempts (.030). A scrappy Roadrunner defense was waiting on the other side of the net. CSUB tallied 17 digs in Game Two and stepped up their offense, notching 12 kills on 32 swings while committing six errors.

Kills by Julia Bowen and Yuan Fu helped CSU Bakersfield hang with the Lobos early, 4-4. The teams traded points before back-to-back aces by Mariah Alvidrez and a Lobo error gave the Roadrunners a 9-6 edge.

New Mexico managed to cut the advantage to one point twice -- at the 11-10 mark and again at the 12-11 mark -- but the Roadrunners were much more aggressive at the net in the Second Set and soon their lead grew to 16-12.

Off-speed shots by Kelsee Sawyer and Fernanda Goncalves pushed the visitor's lead to 19-14. A kill by Debora Araujo followed by an ace from Sawyer moved the mark to 22-15.

CSUB closed out Set Two on a 6-0 run and took the game, 25-15.

Third Set - Lobos 25, CSUB 15

The Lobos reclaimed momentum in Set Three, opening with an 8-1 run which featured blocks from Gullatt, Gunsaulus and Riddle and an ace from Hannah Johnson. The Roadrunners strung together four unanswered points to cut the advantage, 8-4, but a kill by Riddle got the Lobos back on track sparked an 12-5 run that moved New Mexico's lead to 20-9.

The Roadrunners managed to put up just six more points while the Lobos cruised to a 25-15 Set Three win.

Riddle had six kills in the set and UNM put up 12 blocks.

Fourth Set - 25-22

Back-to-back kills by Gullatt and Riddle followed by an attack error by the Roadrunners gave New Mexico a 3-0 edge and the Lobos ran it to 10-5.

However, CSUB put up a 6-2 run featuring kills by Yuan Fu and a few Lobo miscues, and cut the lead to one point, 12-11. A kill by Gunsaulus stopped a lead take over by the Roadrunners. A couple of errors and a botched serve by CSU Bakersfield put the Lobos back on top, 17-13, but then the 'Runners went on another run, 5-1, and tied the game at 18s.

The teams traded kills until a Lobo blocking error followed by an attack that sailed long gave CSUB its first lead of the set, 23-21.

Another attack error by UNM gave the 'Runners set point, 24-21. The Lobos prolonged the game for one more point, but a kill by Debora Araujo ended the set, 25-21.

The 'Runners recorded 14 kills in Set Four and hit their best percentage of the afternoon of .278. The Lobos hit .176 and cooled off on blocks, tallying just four in the set.

Fifth Set - CSUB 15, Lobos 10

CSUB took a 4-1 advantage in the deciding set thanks to the arm of Araujo. A cross-court kill by Riddle tacked on one point for New Mexico, but another kill from Araujo, an ace by Erin Riley and a Lobo ball-handling error moved the score to 7-2 in favor of the visitors.

Errors plagued the Lobos and the Roadrunners secured a 10-3 lead. An off speed shot by Ross gave the home team one point, but a block by Goncalves and Fu and a kill from Sawyer moved the mark to 12-4.

But then the Lobos took a run at CSUB. It started with a serving error by the 'Runners followed by a kill from Gullatt and two consecutive errors by the 'Runners, 12-8. A block by Riddle added another point for UNM 12-9. A kill from Sawyer put a small snag in the Lobos' run, but a block by Gullatt and Riddle inched New Mexico closer, 13-10.

A kill by Araujo followed by a Lobo error, however, ended the set and match, 15-10.
