Skiers Take Top-2 Spots in the Men's Giant Slalom

The University of New Mexico Alpine Ski team kicked off the 2004 collegiate race season with a strong showing from the men's team at the University of Utah Invitational on Sunday. Freshmen Peter Roering and Lars Loeseth placed 1-2 in the men's giant slalom.

The Lobos competed in the Alpine portion of the first Rocky Mountain Intercollegiate Ski Association on Sunday and had some strong finishes from their men's team. Sophomore Christian Jensen placed 21st in the GS to go along with Roering and Loeseth's top finishes. Sophomore Alex Freberg was the other Lobo to place in the race by finishing 36th.

The women were led by junior Helena Woodrow's 9th place finish. She was followed by sophomore Gladys Weidt (19th) and senior Jennifer Delich (25th).

The Lobos will the finish the Alpine portion of the Utah Invitational on Monday with the men's and women's slalom races.
