LAS VEGAS, N.V.--- As the third day of the USTA/ITA regional tournament comes to an end, four Lobo singles and one Lobo doubles team have emerged victorious. The University of New Mexico men's tennis team competed in the round of 32 singles and the quarterfinals in doubles at the Darling Tennis Center.
Among the four was New Mexico's Phil Anderson. The junior swiftly took the win in his match against Armando Morales from New Mexico State, 6-0, 6-4.
Lobo Jadon Phillips followed in the footsteps of his teammate, also securing a solid win against UNLV's Johannes Markel, 6-1, 6-3.
New Mexico's Carl Ho had a slightly tougher run in his match against Carl Kuschke of Montana. Ho went three sets with the Grizzly finally winning the match, 6-4,3-6,6-1.
Rounding out the day for the Lobos was junior Ben Dunbar. Dunbar downed his opponent Kyle Lynch from UNLV, 6-0, 6-2.
The round of 16 and quarterfinals for the singles will begin Saturday morning at 9:00 a.m. MST.
On the doubles side, the duo of Ben Dunbar and Conor Berg has continued to hold their own as the top seed. The Lobo team knocked off Boise State's Fillipp Pogostkin and Scotty Sears, 8-6. Dunbar and Berg will compete in the semifinals Saturday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. MST.
