Lobos 3, UT-Pan American 0 Get Acrobat Reader

EDINBURG, Texas - Sunshine, clear skies and some 90 degree weather was all the Lobos needed to get them back on the winning track, as UNM volleyball defeated UT-Pan American, 3-0, Sunday afternoon.

Game One: Lobos 25, UT-Pan American 14

The Lobos came out fired up in the first set. UNM jumped all over the UT-Pan American Broncos early, racking up a 7-1 lead. UT-Pan American fought back, though, cutting the Lobos lead to 8-5. The Broncos remained strong in their attack, eventually tying the game up at 11-11. Once the game was tied, the Lobos seemed snap out of there funk, responding with a 14-3 run to take the set, 25-14. Kelly Williamson stood out for the Lobos offensively. The senior recorded seven kills in the set. As a team, the Lobos were efficient in their attacks, recording a hitting percentage of .344. The Broncos were led by freshman outside hitter Diara Reynolds, who recorded four kills in the set. Junior Jordan Russell made an appearance for the Lobos after sophomore setter Mariah Agre came out of the match after landing awkwardly on her ankle. Agre led the Lobos with five digs to go along with 11 assists before having to be replaced. The Lobos looked fluid in all aspects of their game as they completely dominated UT-Pan American in the first set.

Game Two: Lobos 25, UT-Pan American 19

The Lobos fell behind early, 3-6, to UT Pan American in the second set, but battled back to eventually take a 10-8 lead. UT Pan American head coach Brian Yale was forced to call a timeout once the Lobos captured the lead. Williamson continued to be a dominating force for the Lobos. The 6-2 outside hitter from Argentina had 14 kills by the end of the second set. UT-Pan American refused to go down quietly. The Broncos kept things close throughout the second set. Freshman MB Maria Kliefoth kept UT Pan American close, recording three kills in the set for the Broncos. UNM proved to be too much once again for UT Pan American as the Lobos won the set, 25-19. Russell was productive for the Lobos at the setter position having recorded 11 assists in the absence of Agre.

Game Three: Lobos 25, UT-Pan American 14

The Lobos remained hot in the third set and continued to take it to UT-Pan American. Williamson also staid red hot and finished the match with 22 kills. UNM took the set 25-14 and improved its record to 11-10 on the season.

The win was much needed for the Lobos, as UNM came into the match with a four-game losing streak. The Lobos can use this win as motivation heading into the second half of conference play.

Next, the Lobos will come back home to Albuquerque, N.M., where they will host Boise State at 7 p.m. on Oct. 27 and Air Force at 5 p.m. on Oct. 29 in Jonson Center.
