ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - University of New Mexico sophomore Jennifer Williams earned a spot on the Soccer America Team of the Week today as announced by SoccerAmerica.com. This is the second weekly award the Moreno Valley Calif., native has earned in two days. Williams is the first Lobo since 2007 to win a national weekly award.
"It feels great to win these two awards," said Williams. "It's great to get recognition for New Mexico. We want to be the best team in the Mountain West and do well this season. These awards are just a bonus on top of our hard work. It's not all me, I couldn't have done it without my team."
Williams tied a 12-year old school record with eight total points against Illinois State on Aug. 30. The speedy forward netted three goals and notched two assists in the Lobos 6-2 victory over the Redbirds. The hat trick was the first in head coach Kit Vela's nine-year tenure and the first since Sept. 21, 1996.
The Lobos travel west to take part in the 9th Annual Mountain Classic hosted by Northern Arizona, Sept. 4-6. For more information visit www.GoLobos.com
