ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The Lobo women's basketball team will open the regular season Friday afternoon, in the first game of the Veteran's Day Classic, against Florida Atlantic. New Mexico is coming off a 22-10 season in 2005-06 and was 2-0 in exhibition play, while the Owls were 20-11 last year. Both teams were in the NCAA Tournament last season with UNM losing in the second round to Baylor and FAU losing in the opening round to LSU. The three day tournament runs thorugh Monday with the Lobos playing on Sunday at noon and Monday at 3:00 p.m. Game time is schedule for Friday at 1:30 p.m. in Tempe, Ariz., and can be heard live on 610 AM.

TONIGHT'S GAME: Tonight's game features the Lobos of the University of New Mexico against the Owls of Florida Atlantic University in the opening game of the 2006-07 season.

SCOUTING THE LOBOS: New Mexico is coming off a 22-10 season in 2005-06 and return seven letterwinners, including three starters. UNM returns junior Dionne Marsh who led the team in scoring at 15.9 ppg. last season and senior Katie Montgomery who was second in the country in 3-point field goal percentage last year.

SCOUTING THE OWLS: Florida Atlantic was 20-11 last season and won the Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament to earn a bid to the NCAA Tournament. FAU returns eight letterwinners, including two starters. The Owls top returning scorer and rebounder is senior forward Demina Anderson at 7.5 ppg and 4.2 rpg.

THE COACHES: UNM is led by head coach Don Flanagan who enters his 12th season at New Mexico. Flanagan is 239-104 at UNM. The Owls are led by Chancellor Dugan who enters her eighth season at Florida Atlantic and 16th season overall. Dugan is 99-104 at FAU and 258-117 overall.

THE SERIES: This will be the first meeting ever between New Mexico and Florida Atlantic. The Lobos though are 3-3 against teams from the Sun Belt Conference, which FAU is now a member.
