The University of New Mexico volleyball team graduated a trio of seniors in Jade Michaelsen, Taylor Hadfield, and Lisa Meeter, each of whom has helped the Lobos go from a conference also-ran to a two-time NCAA Tournament qualifier. Now as the team readies for the 2011 season and a third straight tournament berth, the Lobos will hit the court for a five-week spring schedule that will culminate with the Annual Grass Bash on Easter Weekend, April 23 and 24.
The Lobos will play three home dates, including a 10-team invitational tournament on April 2 and an April 16 matchup with UTEP. The Lobos will also travel twice; on March 26 at Arizona and on April 9 against New Mexico State University.
The spring season will lead up to the Annual Grass Bash, which serves as a fundraiser for the UNM Children's Hospital and the Lobo Scholarship Fund.
"I feel this is a very solid Spring schedule for our team and should really help prepare us for next fall," said head coach Jeff Nelson, who will enter his fifth year with the program next fall. "It is great to have a number of quality teams coming to play here on the 2nd, including a very good Lobo Alumni Team and conference rival Colorado State."
Nelson added, "I am also excited to get to play NMSU a couple of times this spring as they are always very good. It is also going to be great to host UTEP on the 16th and have a couple of good scrimmage sessions with them."
