Lobos Sit in Fifth Place After Day One of MWC Championships

SUNRIVER, ORE. - The University of New Mexico men's golf team is currently in fifth place after the first round of the Mountain West Conference Championships. The Lobos finished the day at 7-over par with a 295 on the par-72, 7,568 yard Crosswater Course at Sunriver Resort. UNM trails the opening round leader San Diego State by just 7-strokes as the Aztecs finished the opening 18-holes at even par 288.

Individually the Lobos are paced by freshman Charlie Beljan who carded an opening round 71 to sit in seventh place at 1-under par. Sophomore Jay Choi is tied for eighth with an even round of 72. Other UNM scores are sophomore Spencer Levin is tied for 12th at 2-over par (74), junior Jay Reynolds is 6-over par and tied for 27th and junior Madalitso Muthiya is 38th at 9-over par.

The individual lead belongs to Martin Laird of Colorado State who shot a blistering 8-under par 64 for a 5-stroke lead over Mark Warman of San Diego State who shot a 3-under par 69.
