New Mexico head coach Don Flanagan:
Opening comments on the game: "They were definitely better than us. What I like about their team is that they move the ball so quickly and they always know where one another is. They are very well-schooled, they got great talent and it was a great lesson for our younger kids to play in that environment. When you play the outstanding teams in the country, you want to play hard, you want to play smart, you want to compete against them, but then at the same time you want to have fun and learn something from that experience. We're just not executing offensively. Defensively, I think we are doing a little better job. They are a solid team...and as far as I am concerned, the best team we have played this year and maybe in many years. I felt like that going in. They have the combination of good coaching, good talent and being able to play well together. It is very difficult to defend a team like that."
Comments on playing New Mexico State this Friday:
"Hopefully we're not tired and hopefully we're motivated. This game is going to prepare us for the Mountain West. The most important thing right now is that we play marquee games like this and it should help us for the Mountain West."
Comments on the Stanford team:
"I think what you learn from this team (Stanford) is that you got to be able to play faster and you got to be able to, when one player has the ball, know what the other player on the team is doing. That is what I noticed so much about them...it is like clockwork, everybody knows where everybody is...I was not as discouraged as I was against Arizona because I felt against Arizona we could have won that game. I am pretty encouraged that our attitude was OK afterwards and now we can play people that are a little bit more ordinary."
Stanford head coach Tara Vanderveer:
"First of all, I would like to compliment New Mexico. They played very well and this is a tremendous atmosphere. To come in and have this many fans coming out a supporting women's basketball is just very exciting. The hospitality has been great and the fans were super."
Comments on this weekend's game against Tennessee:
"I would like to compliment New Mexico on how well they rebounded. I was very impressed with their aggressiveness and just how they really got on the glass. That is one thing you have to do in playing Tennessee−you have to rebound, so with this game we really hope our team improved and this was a great opponent for us."
Comments on the margin of victory:
"I don't think it was easy. I think that Candace (Wiggins) is a great leader for us. She came out and she shot the ball really well and she hustled on defense. The crowd was a big factor in cutting down our symbols and cutting down our ability to communicate. It was a total team effort...and it was a fun atmosphere."
