Three players from the University of New Mexico football team were named to the 2003 CoSIDA Academic District VI Football team the organization announced this morning. Junior linebacker Nick Speegle and sophomore wide receiver Hank Baskett III were first team selections, while senior safety Terrell Golden was a second team honoree.
Golden earned Academic all-District honors for the third straight year, while Speegle picked up his second consecutive award. Baskett, meanwhile, was named to the academic team for the first time in his career.
Speegle has posted a 3.98 GPA in General Management and is third on the team this fall with 62 tackles, including 7.5 for loss. Also a General Management major, Baskett has compiled a 3.29 GPA and is currently third on the team with 15 receptions for 219 yards (14.6 avg.), including two touchdowns. Golden, meanwhile, has earned a 3.26 GPA in Criminology. The Lobo team captain has also notched 30 tackles, including four for loss, in nine games this year.
District VI is comprised of NCAA Division I teams from the states of Louisiana, Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Mississippi.
