New Mexico State Aggies vs. New Mexico Lobos
Postgame head coach quotes
New Mexico head coach Don Flanagan:
"They do a great job at offensive rebounding, they got quickness at their interior and all three of their players inside, and then they have those outside kids that can shoot the outside shot. I didn't want to play much zone, but I thought it was working well enough and the only thing we were giving up were offensive rebounds which I wasn't particularly happy with. I thought the press bothered them, at least slowed them up a little bit, took some time off the clock. Amy Beggin was big! For 5'6 she is as about as big as big can be."
"(The four point play) was the turning point. Till that time I'm not sure we had a lead for quite a number of minutes. That was the turning point and it was a big shot. Beggin has played big all year long but that was her best game by far. One turnover 40 minutes of play, I need some help for her but she isn't getting any if she is playing that good."
New Mexico State head coach Darin Spence:
"I am proud of our group. We battled our tales off. This is a special environment. Coming in here you have to be a little better to keep that going for 40 minutes and this environment is something I've been working my tale off for going on five years now to build down south. It helps, it got (UNM) over the hump. I knew going in there was a lot of doubt in their mind still and once (NMSU) got the lead I could see it in their faces and once the crowd kicked in then all the sudden they became superwomen and could do no wrong."
"Something that is called the first minute of the game should be called at the third the ten the twenty and the thirty. They had just called two moving screens in a row I guess they can't call the third in a row. I gotta give the kid credit, they screened and they made the shot. Monique knocked her down. That was huge. We had just scored and quieted the crowd down and that got them going. If you want to say one play that turned it, than that is probably it."
