BOZEMAN, Mont. -- Newcomer Mats Rudin Resaland paced the Lobo Nordic team, capturing the men's 15K mass start classic race at the FIS Super Tour World Cup Qualification race on Sunday at Bohart Ranch in Bozeman, Mont.
Resaland, a native of Kongsberg, Norway, was part of a pack of seven competitors that pulled away from the rest of the racers early on and battled almost the entire race. Resaland separated from the group at the end, finishing the course in 47:02.76 to top last year's NCAA Men's 20K Classic Champion (Miles Havlick, Utah) and Runner Up (David Norris, Montana State). He also defeated the 2012 RMISA Freestyle and Classical Regional Champion, Rune Oedegaard of the University of Colorado and several other top American skiers.
Next for the Lobo men was sophomore Sjur Prestsaeter (49:15.29) who finished 11th overall and sixth among collegiate racers.
Senior Eivind Odden Solberg also raced and placed 52nd overall and 13th in the college field with a course time of 54:59.27.
Senior Linn Håvelsrud Klaesson set the pace for the New Mexico women's Nordic crew, finishing the 11K course in 43:14.25 for a 10th-place finish overall and first among collegiate competitors. Sophomore Anni Nord (43:14.25) came in 15th overall and was second among college skiers while Clara Chauvet, also a sophomore, placed 25th overall and 10th in the college age group (44:26.34).
