ALBUQUERQUE, N.M - The University of New Mexico women's basketball team will conclude its three game road trip with a nationally televised game at Utah on Sunday. The Lobos improved to 10-5 and 2-0 in the conference on Thursday with a win at BYU. Utah is 13-4 on the season and 3-0 in the MWC after a win over Air Force on Thursday. The New Mexico/Utah game will be televised nationally by ESPN2 with tip-off set for Sunday at 1:00 PM.
TODAY'S GAME: Today's game features the Lobos of the University of New Mexico against the Utes of the University of Utah in a Mountain West Conference game.
SCOUTING THE LOBOS: The Lobos are coming off back-to-back conference road wins at Air Force and BYU. UNM is currently 10-5 with losses to No. 3 Texas, Villanova, South Carolina, San Francisco and Arizona and wins over Southern Cal, Cal State Fullerton, Youngstown State, Texas Southern, Tennessee State, New Mexico State and New Mexico Highlands. The Lobos are led in scoring and rebounding by junior forward Lindsey Arndt with 10.4 ppg and 7.7 rpg. Following Arndt is junior Mandi Moore and senior Melissa Forest with 8.3 and 8.1 ppg, respectively. Leading UNM in assists is Moore with 3.2 apg.
SCOUTING THE UTES: Utah is currently leading the Mountain West Conference starting a perfect 3-0. The Utes on the season are 13-4 with victories over Southeast Missouri, Western Kentucky, Fresno State, St. Mary's, Gonzaga, Washington State, Weber State, Northern Arizona, San Francisco, Idaho State, Wyoming, Colorado State and Air Force, while falling to Santa Barbara, Oklahoma, Oregon State and Montana. The Utes are led in both scoring and rebounding by Kim Smith at 15.6 ppg and 6.9 rpg. Joining Smith in double figures is Shona Thornburn at 12.5 ppg and 3.8 apg.
THE COACHES: UNM is led by head coach Don Flanagan in his ninth season at New Mexico. Flanagan is 178-86 at UNM. The Utes are under the direction of Elaine Elliott, who is in her 21st year at Utah. Elliott has a record of 426-175 at Utah.
THE SERIES: UNM and Utah will be meeting for the 50th time with the Utes holding a commanding 38-11 edge. The Lobos are 0-7 on the road at Utah in head coach Don Flanagan's career. Overall under Flanagan New Mexico is 5-9 against Utah.
