COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Junior goalkeeper Kristen Winters has been named the Mountain West Conference Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week. This is her first weekly honor of the season and the second of her career.
Winters, a Lakewood, Colo., native, tallied two shutouts last weekend, leading the Lobos to a 1-3-1 record in conference play. In 207 minutes of action she had 10 saves while facing 28 shots, 14 of which were on goal. In UNM's 1-0 overtime win against UNLV, Winters saved five shots, while holding Anni Magliulo (tied for MWC lead in points and goals) to no goals for the match. She also had five saves in New Mexico's 0-0 double overtime tie with San Diego State, including a stop on a goal attempt in the final minute of regulation and diving save in the final seconds of the first overtime. On the season, Winters has 92 saves and five shutouts in 1,445 minutes in goal.
Winter's and the rest of the Lobos head to Colorado Springs, Colo. for their final weekend of regular season action. New Mexico ends conference play Friday against Air Force and finishes the season on Sunday against Michigan State.
