ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- Two New Mexico women's soccer players were named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District VI team Thursday as selected by member of CoSIDA. Sophomore Alexis Ball earned second team honors while senior Samantha Bevis earned third team honors.
Ball carries a 4.2 cumulative grade point average (GPA) and is majoring in Biology with a minor in Spanish. This is not the first Academic award for the Albuquerque native. Ball was selected to the 2007 All-Mountain West Conference Academic team and was also named a 2007-08 MWC Scholar Athlete. Before coming to UNM, Ball was the Valedictorian of La Cueva High School with a 4.4 cumulative GPA. She currently leads the team in goal with five, two of which have been gamewinners.
Bevis, a Psychology major with a philosophy minor has a 3.35 cumulative GPA. The Lakewood, Colo., native was named to the 2007 All-MWC Academic team for her 3.29 GPA in the fall. Bevis has scored two goals from her defender position and has played every minute this season.
