New Mexico at No. 6 San Diego State - Postgame Notes

  • New Mexico drops a 68-62 decision at No. 6 San Diego State...the Lobos have lost 2 in a row after posting a 4-game winning streak from Jan. 26 - Feb. 9...UNM is 17-9 overall and 5-6 in the Mountain West Conference

  • UNM loses 68-62 for the second straight game...it was the same score last Saturday at Colorado State...additionally, the Lobos scored 68 in their last win, beating Wyoming 68-57 on Feb. 9

  • The last time UNM lost consecutive games by the same score was Feb. 20 and 25, 1971, falling 68-67 at UTEP and at home to Colorado State

  • Tonight, UNM shot 41.5% (22-53) from the floor and 41.7% (5-12) from 3-point...the past 3 games, the Lobos have shot 39.7% (69-174) overall and 27.6% (16-58) from 3-point

  • The Lobos shot better than San Diego State (41.5% to 40.4%) and also out-rebounded them (37-33)...that usually spells victory for UNM as it came into the game 14-2 this season when shooting better than its opponent...the Lobos also had a 41-6 record in their last 47 games when grabbing more rebounds

  • San Diego State has won 10 of the past 13 games in the series

  • The 2010-11 Aztecs are just the second team to sweep the season series from UNM under head coach Steve Alford...BYU did it in Alford's first season (2007-08)

  • The Aztecs only had one FG in the last 10:27 of the game

  • San Diego State's D.J. Gay was 3 of 4 from 3-point, making him 10 of 15 in two games against UNM this season

  • New Mexico lost for the first time in 13 games this season when holding its opponents to 5 three-pointers or less...the Aztecs were 5 of 8 tonight

  • SDSU is 18 of 33 (54%) from 3-point in 2 games vs. UNM this season

  • With freshman Cameron Bairstow getting his 1st career start tonight, UNM utilized its 8th different starting lineup of the 2010-11 season...it's also the 6th different starting five in 12 MWC games

  • Three freshmen started tonight in Bairstow, Tony Snell and Kendall Williams...the last time that happened was Nov. 24, 2008, when Will Brown, A.J. Hardeman and Phillip McDonald started against Cal State Northridge

  • Still averaging a double-double in MWC games at 14.0 ppg and 10.4 rpg

  • Came off the bench to score 9 points in 21 minutes

    Freshman G Kendall Williams

  • Scoreless for the 1st time this season on 0-6 FGs; also had a season-high 5 turnovers (all in the 1st half)
  • 3 assists, giving him 115 on the season and tying Marlon Parmer (1999-00) for the 3rd-highest total by a UNM freshman
