ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.--- The New Mexico men's tennis team pushed forward to 2-0 Monday night, shutting out Texas A&M, Corpus Christi. The Lobos fought hard to advance their wins after capturing a 6-1 victory over DePaul in their season opener. In their second match of the 2011 season, the Lobos overpowered the Islanders 7-0 taking two of three doubles and all six singles.
In doubles, Lobos Conor Berg and Ben Dunbar sealed the first win of the night defeating Laurent Montoisy and James Langford 6-4. Joe Wood and Carl Ho captured the opening point edging out a win over Corpus Christi's Gergo Weidinger and Alex Pavlov 9-7.
In singles, New Mexico swept all six matches. Although not each win was easy, the Lobos played hard in each and every set and tallied well-earned victories.
Sophomore Jadon Phillips outshone a tough competitor in the no. 1 spot, defeating Laurent Montoisy 7-6, 6-3.
Lobo Conor Berg continued his impressive dual match win streak beating his opponent Matt Westmoreland 6-1, 6-4. Berg has held his dual match streak since last spring and is currently tallied at 14 individual wins.
Matched against Corpus Christi's Aurelien Tave, Junior Phil Anderson fought to the finish closing the night for the Lobos with a 7-6, 7-6 win.
The Lobos host the New Mexico State Aggie's Saturday, Jan. 29. The Aggies are 1-1 so far this season, after falling to Utah in their second match. The match will be held at the Linda Estes Tennis Complex at 6:00 p.m.
