Recap |  Box Score |  Notes |  Feb. 21 - Lobos vs. San Diego State

New Mexico Head Coach Steve Alford

Opening Statements:
"I couldn't be more proud of this team. The guys gave big time efforts. We shared the ball and rebounded at a high level. Daniel (Faris) probably won't get interviewed or talked about that much, but he was a huge key. His ability to rebound, guard and pass the ball out of double teams really opened space up for our shooters."

"We got a lot of guys involved early. Phillip (McDonald) got back in rhythm and was more aggressive. I thought AJ (Hardeman) and Will (Brown) gave productive minutes. It's hard to find fault in anybody that played tonight."

Roman Martinez getting involved early:
"We obviously knew Roman (Martinez) had a big match-up today. Roman was active, but you didn't see Roman post up one time like he did at BYU. He got back to doing what he does best. When teams get out of being who they are, they run into problems. When we are who we are, we're pretty good."

Tony Danridge's game:
"Guarding Tony (Danridge) is a load, and Tony proved his worth. Tony is having a great conference season. He went up against (Lorrenzo) Wade, who I think is very good. Tony gave him a lot of problems defensively."

San Diego State Head Coach Steve Fisher

"They (the Lobos) were sensational. There is absolutely no question about it. We, until the last minute and a half of the first half, had it at a four-point game. Then we go down 11 at half and then they took over in the second half."

We fought back to cut an 11-point lead to six or seven. They played sensational offensive basketball. Everybody made shots and when you do that it opens that rim up to what seems like the Pacific Ocean.

Early on they were led by (Roman) Martinez who made three threes on us. Then (Tony) Danridge was very difficult for us to guard on the isolation and they just took it to us."

On the Lobos' defense:
"They have become a much better defensive team and I think that's a credit to Steve Alford and his staff. It is also a testament to the kids coming in and playing that way. This is a team, that when you come into The Pit, they don't think anyone can beat them. The crowd really gets them going."
