New Mexico head coach Steve Alford
"We got really smacked around on the boards and I think that is a really big issue with our team. We are very small...there is an awful lot of pressure on J.R. to get rebounds and I don't think we have enough guys that can get rebounds and that really flared up on us tonight. We took care of the basketball but when you give up 23 second chance points I think it is really hard to win games at this level. (San Diego) did a good job in the second half."
"I think they (San Diego State) had eight or nine second chance offensive rebounds...ended up with 18 offensive rebounds. Your defense can't give up that many offensive rebounds especially on a night when you're not shooting that well."
"The atmosphere was great. The fans were terrific. It is too bad we couldn't come back home and have a good win. The guys played hard. Both teams played hard. Our fans were really good. We just got to rebound here and try to go back out on the road and get one."
San Diego State head coach Steve Fisher
On free throws:
"I think free throw shooting can be contagious. When Matt made that first critical one on one, you have to make the first one to get the second one and I think it helped us on the next one. We stepped up, when you say 'if you want to win this game, can you make a free throw' and we made them. That's pretty pretty good heart nosed something."
"We did a lot of switching, with everybody but Faris, the big guy, and it allowed us to not give them quite as many dribble drive kicks. We were able to be a little closer to (Toppert) most of the night. We were concerned, he was 4 for 7 against us last year for 3 pointers."
