Los Angeles, Calif. - The University of New Mexico women's soccer team ended the weekend with a 1-0 loss to Loyola Marymount Sunday afternoon at LMU's Sullivan Field in Los Angeles, Calif. The Lions are now 1-0 in the all-time series against UNM and improves to 4-2-0 overall on the season. The Lobos return home with a 3-3-0 record.
The Lion's lone goal came at the 38th minute from a shot off of LMU's top returning goal scorer Kelly Lewandowski. Amanda Bolado collected the assist.
In the second half, neither team found opportunities to score and Loyola Marymount was able to hold off New Mexico for the remainder of the game, winning its second and final match at LMU's weekend tournament.
New Mexico proved to be a challenge defensively for the Lions, allowing only nine shots from LMU's offense. On Friday against Northern Colorado, Loyola Marymount had 25 shots in the game and four goals. UNM sophomore defender Alanna Abeyta and sophomore midfielder Brittany Emerson were named on LMU's All-Tournament team for their stand-out performances over the weekend.
The Lobos are back at the UNM Soccer Complex Sunday, Sept. 19 where they will face the Fresno State Bulldogs at noon. Sunday is "Stuff the Stadium" day with all tickets going for $1.00. For ticket information call the UNM Ticket Office at (505) 925-LOBO.
