University of Colorado/Laura Sharpe Flood Memorial Invitational Results - through 4 events

ELDORA, Colo. --- Fourth and fifth place were the popular finishes for University of New Mexico skiers in the slalom races at Eldora Ski Resort on Thursday. The four top-5 finishes at the University of Colorado/Laura Sharpe Flood Memorial Invitational by veterans Karin Ohlin and Malin Hemmingsson for the women and freshmen Nikolai Herlofson Finne and Petter Brenna for the men kept the Lobos in first place in team standings headed into the Nordic competition with 282 points, 11.5 points ahead of host Colorado in second place.

"We have been very consistent these last two days," said UNM Alpine head coach Martin Kroisleitner. "The conditions today were really rough and we took some risks. You have to take chances to be on top at the end of the day."

The men's Alpine squad was one of the few teams to stay on their feet during Thursday's slalom race. The Lobos and host Colorado Buffaloes were the only schools not to suffer a dreaded DNF, as in Did Not Finish, in the men's slalom race. UNM finished tied for second in the event with 72 points.

Finne and Brenna finished in fourth (1:44.47) and fifth places (1:44.79), respectively, to pace the Lobos. Sophomore Thomas Schwab placed 12th for the Lobos third set of points, while junior Olivier Lacaille kept things close with a 15th-place finish.

Ohlin and Hemmingsson also finished in fourth (1:44.80) and fifth places (1:45.36), respectively, to keep the Lobos in the running for first place overall. Newcomers Estelle Pecherand-Charmet and Stefanie Demetz struggled in the slalom after leading the Lobos in the giant slalom on Wednesday. Demetz picked up the Lobos final points of the day to give the women's squad 61 towards the team total.

Competition continues on Friday with the Nordic men's and women's classical races at Aspen High School in Aspen, Colo. Alpine skiers will compete in an extra NCAA qualifying slalom race at Eldora for individual points on Friday.

Reissmann, Finne, and Pecherand-Charmet named RMISA Skiers of the Week ... The RMISA announced its first Skiers of the Week for 2009.
