LUBBOCK, Texas --- New Mexico senior Lindsey Elcess hit a solo home run Monday during game two of a doubleheader against Texas Tech and helped the Lobos split. UNM split a twin bill with the Red Raiders at Rocky Johnson Field after dropping game one 4-3 and winning game two, 1-0. The Lobos are 23-20 after the games at TTU and the Red Raiders moved to 21-34.

UNM scored first in game one after taking advantage of a TTU fielding miscue. Junior Samantha Hughes scored the run on an error by the Red Raiders second baseman. Hughes led off the game with a walk.

TTU tied the game in the second on a solo homer and took the lead in the third on a sacrifice fly. The Red Raiders led 2-1 after three innings.

Sophomore Katie Gilmore tied the game in the fourth at 2-2. Gilmore belted a solo shot to left field. The homer was her second of the year. Gilmore went 2-for-2 in the game.

The Red Raiders regained the lead in the fifth with two runs. Montana Patin hit a two RBI triple in the inning.

The Lobos tried to rally from behind with a run in the sixth but fell short. Gilmore doubled allowing Elcess to score on a fielding error.

Senior Kelly Ninemire (15-13) took the loss after throwing six innings allowing seven hits and four runs.

In game two, UNM received a solid pitching performance from freshman Madelyn Machac and senior Ashley Allen. Machac (5-4) held the Red Raiders scoreless for five innings and only gave up seven hits. Allen pitched the final two innings and recorded her first save. Allen was flawless throwing a no-hitter in the final two frames. The combined shutout was the first for Machac and Allen.

Elcess showcased her power in the top of the sixth inning with a solo home run. Elcess blasted her team-leading 10th long ball of the year in the game. Hughes went 2-for-4 in the game.

The Lobos travel to UNLV and San Diego State this weekend in Mountain West Conference action. Gametracker will be available for every game.
