ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. --- The University of New Mexico has reached an agreement with Arizona State University to schedule a future home-and-home series in football Lobo head coach Mike Locksley announced Friday.
The games will be played Saturday, September 13, 2014 at University Stadium in Albuquerque and Saturday, September 5, 2015 at Sun Devil Stadium/Kush Field in Tempe.
"Arizona State is a great program with a lot of history and we are pleased to announce this agreement," said Locksley. "This gives us an opportunity to play a regional opponent which is great for the fans and renew a series that dates back to the early 1930s. We wanted to find an opponent that would be exciting for the fans and close enough for them to travel. We did that with Arizona State."
New Mexico has not face Arizona State since 1977 but did battle the Sun Devils every year between 1965 and 1977 when both were members of the Western Athletic Conference.
ASU and UNM have met 28 times on the football field. The Sun Devils hold a 22-5-1 series advantage and have won 17 straight. The series dates back to the 1932 season. New Mexico's last win was in 1942, 35-7, in Albuquerque. The Lobos trail in the series 1-12-1 when playing in Tempe and 4-10 when facing ASU at home.
